Dnipropetrovsk hosted a conference ‘Ways and Directions of Small and Medium Business Support’


On September30–October1 2014, Dnipropetrovsk hosted conference ‘Ways and Directions of Small and Medium Business Support’ conducted by the MLED Project with support of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast State Administration. The goal of the conference was to discuss the problem areas of SME development and find the ways to support local entrepreneurship.

The first day of the conference was dedicated to plenary sessions and thematic sections, where participants discussed the status and trends in the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperation between government and businesses to facilitate SME development, creation of an enabling business environment, business support infrastructure development and the role business associations play in facilitating LED.

As always, MLED Project invited the most experienced Canadian practical experts to share their knowledge with Ukrainian colleagues. Steve Pellarin, Executive Director of Small Business Centre in London, Canada, shared the experience his city has gained in supporting local business development, while Wayne Robert, MLED Project’s Adviser, reported on the role Business Services Centres play in LED. In addition, Wayne Robert presented the newest MLED Project’s product – “Practitioners Guide to the «Creation of a Sustainable Business Service Centre” to the audience. This guide describes the process that helps communities develop the Business Services Centre’s structure they feel most comfortable with and contains recommendations to make such centre sustainable.

On the second day of the conference participants learned how to create sustainable business service center or an effective center for administrative services provision during master classes.
