Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Strategic Development Plan through 2020 developed with MLED’s support saw its approval

On September 26, 2014 saw the Session of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, which approved Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Strategic Development Plan through 2020 developed with support of the MLED Project.

The Strategic Development Plan is aimed at building the regional economic capacity as well as enhancing comfort, security and well-being of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast’s residents. The Strategy sets out a clear action plan for Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and is focused on the most promising sectors. It rests on the following four strategic objectives: reducing economic imbalances, developing rural areas, improving environmental security and developing human capital.

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council was the first in Ukraine to develop a procedure for public consultations on its resolutions. In addition, Strategic Development Plan of the Oblast was made subject to public hearings.

“Oblast Council is consistent in its activities, which are to yield benefit to its every resident. We tackle important regional issues at each session, and today is no exception. All draft resolutions, which have been presented for consideration at today’s session, underwent public evaluation, which is a new experience for Oblast Council and Ukraine in general. Everyone has the right to have a hand in making managerial decisions of importance to Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. For that end, you have to be an active citizen and leave no stone unturned, no avenue unexplored. The most important thing is for everyone to understand that government and the public are allies rather than enemies. The government must work and demonstrate results, while the public may control the government rather bring it to a standstill,” said Yevhen Udod, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council.
